This is my recommended settings for CANON Legria HF S100
Manual setting (Tv or Av)
Keep f between 1.8 – 5.4 (higher values makes picture blurrier),
exposure between 25 (30 USA) – 500 (higher values makes visible rolling shutter problem)
f=4 and exposure 1/50 (1/60) is the best sollution :-)
Colors: high, Sharpness: medium (maybe low), Contrast: low (maybe medium), Brightness: high (maybe medium)
Limit gain control (AGC Limit) to 6dB
(bigger values makes picture noisy 6dB is OK in dark scenes)
x.v.Color ON (for better gamut)
1920×1080x25p or 30p (USA) (1440×1080 isn’t recommended due to 4:2:0 color-subsampling)
Bitrate 24Mbit/s (AVCHD – not high-enough for water etc :-) but still 2x better than HDV at 25Mbit/s)
Switch Onscreen (Grid, Zebra, Audio Level)
Be sure to import video as progressive (not interlaced),
in Sony Vegas you can find it in every imported clip properties
(field order -> progressive scan) don’t forget it!!!
set output project to progressive and exact framerate 25fps (30 USA)!!!
video pixel format 32bit (full-range)
Strictly use lossless compression such as HUFFYUV, Lagarith or MSU.
For final export I recomended H264 2pass.
